Fire fighting personnel were still carrying out cooling down operations at Munro College in St. Elizabeth by midday on Thursday following an early morning blaze. The fire destroyed the staff room, leaving an estimated $7 million in damage. The School's Principal Brandford Gayle says a full assessment will be conducted by members of the board in an effort to determine what can be done with the remaining sections of the structure which are made of stone cut walls. He all sought to assure that all the boarders are safe.Firefighting personnel are sifting through the debris to try and determine the cause of the fire but they say it will be sometime before that is known. Mr. Gayle says he is now appealing to the Munro College Old Boys Association to help the school construct a new staff room.Old buildingsMeanwhile, Mr. Gayle has expressed concern about the structures at the prestigious all boys' school. "We are very concerned about the age of some of the buildings. The planning process is complete to construct a new dormitory because we are worried about one of them. Some areas are new but some are over a hundred years old, some areas are 150 years old, these things are always at the forefront of our minds," Principal Gayle said.
