"It took a lot of hard work, dedication and discipline. I can't describe how much hard work it was for them, being on the team, practising non-stop, plus extra lessons and preparing for GSAT. Sometimes they were really so tired but they never gave up."The Salmons have a history in the Schools' Challenge Quiz. Wayne was himself on the senior Schools' Challenge Quiz team for Calabar High School in 1984 and 1985, making it to the quarter-finals and semi-finals.Jason's older brother, Jordan, was on Mona Prep's team two years ago. This is Jason's second year on the team."Jason told me he wanted to win for Jordan because for the last three years they lost to Windward Road Primary," said Wayne.Teary-eyed with joy, Dionne Hemmings, mother of teammate Peter-John McDermott, said, "I am so so proud of them." Her son is the youngest on the team and is the only on that will remain for next year's team.Swelling with pride and joy, principal Dixon said her first reaction on winning was a big scream in the studios of TVJ before whispering a prayer of thank you.Although the team was nervous, vice-principal Jean Mullings said the calm and humble temperament of their captain Jason Salmon kept them in check. "One look from Jason and they knew what that meant," she said. "This team really had a great chemistry and Jason held it together well."
