Attorney at law Phoebe Lawrence is to stand trial for murder before the Home Circuit Court. The 64 year old attorney was committed to stand trial on Thursday at the end of the preliminary enquiry into the shooting death of Errol Buchanan, 51, before the Corporate Area Criminal Court.Mr. Lawrence is accused of killing Mr. Buchanan, who is otherwise called "Poppy", who was found dead on May 25, 2009, on Carnation Way in Mona, St. Andrew.Residents of Carnation Way reported hearing explosions shortly after nine o'clock and called the police who found Mr. Buchanan's body.It is alleged that Mr. Buchanan had been stealing items from houses in the area and this may have led to his death.Investigators from the Major Investigation Task Force got a breakthrough in the mystery killing three months later and arrested Mr. Lawrence and seized his licensed firearm.Ballistic test results show that the attorney's gun was the murder weapon.Mr. Lawrence's attorney, Jacqueline Samuels-Brown, argued in court on Thursday that prosecutors have failed to provide the evidence connecting the attorney to the shooting, even though his gun has been linked to the incident.The Magistrate disagreed and ordered that the attorney stand trial before a jury.
