The Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) says the manner in which Government has implemented recent changes to the tax regime is contrary to its stated commitment to a comprehensive approach to tax reform. The PSOJ said the sudden change to the method of application of a special consumption tax on alcoholic beverages appears to follow the historical pattern of piecemeal adjustment in response to short term needs. The PSOJ is calling for tax reforms that clearly demonstrate the link between budget measures and the Government's medium and long-term planning objectives. It said it is disappointed that the Government has not consulted with the private sector and other stakeholders throughout the various stages of the budget process.
