The referees who officiated in the ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel daCosta Cup and All-Island Under-14 schoolboy finals have been suspended by the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) on recommendation from the Referees Committee. Both games were decided by questionable goals, and the Committee deemed that the officials were less than proficient in applying the laws of the game.Patrick McPherson, Donat McKenley, Melvin Reid and Robert Lindsay officiated the daCosta Cup final on December 4 between Rusea's High and Lennon High.Rusea's won 1-0 from a goal scored from a deliberate hand-ball.The same infringement occurred in the ISSA Under-14 final at Dinthill Technical High which Jamaica College won over Cornwall College.Garfield Gardener, Jermaine Yeesing, Lenval Peart, and Yakeeni Malcolm officiated in that final.Both sets of officials have been suspended for the rest of the year.Peter Prendergast, Chairman of the Referees Committee, says remedial work is to be done with the guilty officials."The Referee's Committee reviewed the footage with the referees (who) are invited in to get their opinions after seeing it three, four times and identify the possible causes for the (occurrences during the game) which could be due to bad positioning a lack of fitness, a lack of concentration (or) a combination of all three then we'll take it from there," he said.
