At least 32 persons have died on the nation's roads so far this month. Data from the Road Safety Unit show that up to December 1 fatalities stood at 276 but yesterday the figure was at 308. The Unit says with two days left in the year, road users are being urged to practise proper road use so as to help reduce the number of crashes and fatalities. The Road Safety Unit is making a special appeal to pedestrians to be more vigilant in protecting themselves in the traffic environment. Pedestrians recorded the highest number of deaths in all categories of road users. So far, 116 pedestrians have been killed on the nation's roads when compared to 83 in 2009. Pedestrians are followed by drivers and passengers in private motor vehicles. In the meantime, most of the road fatalities were recorded in Kingston and St. Andrew, which has seen 84 deaths. The Corporate Area is followed by St. Catherine with 43 deaths, Westmoreland with 27 and Clarendon with 24 deaths. The top five is rounded out by the parish of Manchester which recorded 22 road fatalities.
