It is expected to be business as usual in the public transportation system on Thursday as the Jamaica Association of Transport Owners and Operators (JATOO) has called off its threatened protest action. On Monday, JATOO issued a 48 hour ultimatum for the Transport Authority, the Urban Development Commission, the Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation and the Jamaica Urban Transit Company to iron out all outstanding issues relating to new parking arrangements in downtown Kingston. The Association had warned that normality could not be guaranteed in the transport sector if this did not happen. However Egeton Newman, National Coordinator for JATOO, says the group has decided not to carry out its threat, following a meeting with the police Wednesday afternoon.According to Mr. Newman, the intervention of the police has helped the Association to move closer to resolving the issues."The Police High Command has said to us allow us to have discussions and get back to you, so what we're saying is there'll be no work stoppage ... everybody will be back at work," he said.
