There are strong indications that the governing Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) will be using this weekend's annual retreat as a launching pad for heightened political activities this year. The JLP's top leadership is expected to map out a broad based political strategy following the past year which saw the Golding administration rocked by turbulence on the local political landscape. The Golding government fought off fierce challenges from their political foes in the last year with even strident calls for Prime Minister Bruce Golding to demit office at the height of the tumultuous Manatt Phelps and Phillips affair. With 2010 now behind it, and a General Election at least two years ahead the JLP has started to map out a master plan for the 2012 elections at their annual retreat this weekend. General Secretary Aundre Franklin told RJR News on Friday that the party will be shifting into high gear in the coming months. He also said that the party will seek to further best represent the interests of the population. In addition to reports from the General Secretary and Deputy Leaders, Party Leader Prime Minister Bruce Golding will lay out his charge to the party's officers.Following the retreat the Party's Standing Committee and the chairmen of the party's re-energized 16 national committees will meet to further discuss and fine-tune plans going forward.
