A little over two years after Tropical Storm Gustav wreaked havoc on Jamaica, communities in the southern and eastern sections of the island are expected to benefit from a multi-million dollar road rehabilitation project. The Ministry of Agriculture is partnering with the National Works Agency (NWA) to address critical farm roads that were damaged as a result of the storm's passage in August 2008. The farm road rehabilitation project which is estimated to cost $161.2 million is being funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). It is expected to create approximately 200 new jobs. Dr. Christopher Tufton says the road work is expected to be completed by March 31 and will include drainage and surface improvement, along with retaining wall construction. He says 10 roads in the parishes of Portland, Clarendon, Hanover, St. Elizabeth, St. Andrew and St. Thomas are expected to be targeted under the project.
