The cadre of personnel in the public health sector has been boosted with the arrival of 35 nurses from Cuba Wednesday night. They will be deployed to facilities across all four Health Regions.The nurses are trained in surgical procedures, Intensive Care, Ophthalmology, Paediatrics and Neonatal services.Minister of Health, Rudyard Spencer, says this first batch of 51 nurses was recruited by a team which he led to Cuba in June last year.The other nurses are expected to arrive in the country in three months.In July 2009, the Government entered into a bilateral agreement with Cuba to train and supply critical health workers for the local sector.The agreement comes to an end in July.
