Sections of Hampstead and Red Hills in Yallahs, St. Thomas are tense following a shooting and reprisal attack by gunmen in the area. It is reported that early Thursday morning, gunmen pretending to be members of a police team went to the house of an 18 year old man.However the man realised that they were not the police and ran.He was shot in the leg while fleeing.This incident followed the shooting death of Ogizibie Richards, 32, a shoe vendor who is also called "Oney" from Red Hills in Yallahs Wednesday night. Mr. Richards was standing at a shop next door to his house when he was approached by a man who shot him several times.He died on the spot.Heavily armed men reportedly went back into the area searching for Mr. Richards' friends Thursday morning however; they retreated on the arrival of the police.Superintendent Melvin McNab, Divisional Commander of the St. Thomas Police, sought to assure residents of the area that the police will be maintaining a presence to prevent any further shootings. He says the problem was sparked by a domestic dispute and urged members of the community to help the police."The area is now tense but calm. Police personnel are in the area and are requesting the assistance of residents. We want to assure them that the area will be policed to prevent any more shooting incidents and we want them to call us with any information they have about the shootings," Superintendent McNab toldRJR News.The police are seeking the resident's assistance in locating three persons of interest linked to the shootings.The police are urging Kevin Burger otherwise called "Bubup", Nicholas Burke and Marlon Terry, otherwise called "duppy flames", who are said to frequent the Red Hills, Hampstead and Phillips Field, in St. Thomas to report to the Morant Bay CIB by 8:00 a.m. Friday, January 14.Anyone knowing the whereabouts of these men is being asked to contact the Morant Bay CIB at 982-2600 or 982-1025, Crime Stop at 311 or the nearest police station.
