A former member of the Island Special Constabulary Force who was on the run for several months after being accused of corruption, has been nabbed. A statement issued Sunday night by the police said Ex-Special Sergeant Emelio West, 40, was arrested on Thursday by members of the Anti Corruption Branch.The ex-cop allegedly fled the country last year after tendering his resignation.He recently returned to Jamaica after which the Anti Corruption Branch conducted a sting operation in which he was held.Mr. West was charged with assisting an act of corruption in December 2009.He is accused of accepting an undetermined amount of money from a businesswoman in connection with a matter which was being investigated by one of his colleagues.A report was made to the Anti Corruption Branch and an investigation was carried out. A file was then submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions who ruled that Mr. West be charged.He appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday and was granted $500,000 bail with two sureties.A stop order was placed on him at all ports of exit.The ex- Special Sergeant must also report to the Waterford Police Station in Portmore daily.He is scheduled to return to court on February 24 when the case will again be mentioned.
