Scores of cane cutters employed to the Frome Sugar Factory in Westmoreland padlocked and chained the main gates to the facility for several hours Tuesday morning. The workers say they were protesting the non-payment of retroactive monies owed to them.The irate workers converged at the factory gate demanding to be addressed by someone in management.The union delegate says he understands the workers plight as they were assured last week after withdrawing their services that yesterday they would have been addressed.The protestors later opened the gate to allow the police to enter the premises.However, they have since chained the gates again.Attempts to get a word from management proved futile as they were reportedly engaged in dialogue with the police.
