Labour Minister Pearnel Charles says he'll be referring the strike taken by the tanker drivers to the Industrial Disputes Tribunal (IDT) if they fail to resume duties. The tanker drivers are now on strike over the failure of haulage contractors to pay outstanding wage increases. A meeting has been scheduled at the Labour Ministry for this afternoon in a bid to resolve the impasse. Charles says going to the IDT will be the last resort so he's hoping that a settlement will be reached this afternoon. The tanker drivers are owed salaries under a 2009/2010 wage agreement. The agreement was for an eight per cent increase in year one and another eight per cent in year two. However the haulage contractors have failed to honour that agreement. Meanwhile, President of the National Workers Union, Vincent Morrison says the drivers will not resume duties until an agreement is reached. But he says there is adequate supply of petrol at gas stations to meets the demands of motorists until Wednesday.
