Confirmed : Vaz , Lewin and Saunders to testify at Manatt enquiry ( Gleaner )...
Former police commissioner Rear Admiral Hardley Lewin is among three witnesses scheduled to appear before the Manatt/Coke commission of enquiry today. The Commission is probing the circumstances involved in the hiring of US law firm Manatt, Phelps and Phillips to seek to block the extradition of alleged crime lord Christopher 'Dudus' Coke. Admiral Lewin's testimony will be of interest as he had stated that Christopher Coke was tipped off about the extradition request minutes after the National Security Minister, Senator Dwight Nelson was advised it would be coming. Admiral Lewin and Senator Nelson, were expected to testify yesterday, but the cross examination of personnel from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), occupied the entire sitting. Senator Nelson is not available for questioning today, as he is slated to attend the weekly sitting of the Senate. The other witnesses who are expected to give testimony today are former Chief of Defense Staff, Major General Stewart Saunders, and Minister with responsibility for information, Daryl Vaz. Meanwhile, the Commission continues to face problems getting witnesses to attend the sittings. Yesterday, Chairman Emil George admitted he was still not sure whether assistant solicitor general, Lackston Robinson, has received a summons to attend. There was also opposition from attorneys when the chairman attempted to increase the hours of the sitting. People's National Party (PNP) attorney KD Knight, said the majority of the lawyers had pushed back other appointments for the afternoons to be available for the sittings in the mornings. He said the lawyers would not be able to change those arrangements.
