The Police High Command is reporting that there was a 25% increase in arrests last year, when compared with 2009.The increase has also continued into this year. The High Command says, as part of its Anti-Crime Strategy it has been able to charge many alleged criminals based on strong evidence.The Jamaica Constabulary Force says it has incorporated this current strategy in order to disrupt the activities of key gang figures and other crime actors.The police say for too many years, criminals have been profiting from crimes without having to pay, due to a lack of sufficient evidence.The High Command says with frequent arrests these persons will have to expend more time and resources paying for their activities.
