A study in the British medical journal, the Lancet, suggests global obesity levels have doubled in the last 30 years. It found that more than half-a-billion adults were obese in 2008 - around twice the number in 1980.In the developed world, Americans had the highest average body mass index.People are also getting bigger in Latin America and the Caribbean, parts of the Middle East and China, reflecting increased affluence and changes in diet.Two other studies in the Lancet said that while obesity levels had gone up, other health indicators, such as blood pressure and cholesterol levels, had improved.
