The National Works Agency (NWA) has commenced major rehabilitative works on the road between Coopers Hill and Hope Bay in Portland. The project is being undertaken through the multi-billion dollar Jamaica Development Infrastructure Programme (JDIP).Manager for Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw says the 21 kilometer stretch is being rehabilitated at a cost of over 300 million dollars and should be completed within 12 months.Under the project, roads through communities such as Shrewsbury, Paradise, Chapsworth, Grants Gate, Fruitfulvale and Durham Gap will be rehabilitated.Mr. Shaw says that the bushing of the road banks, trimming of overhanging trees and the cleaning of drains are in progress. Major drainage works will also be undertaken, to include the construction of culverts, catch basins and spill ways, as well as "V" and "U" drains. On completion of these works, the road will be repaved with Asphaltic Concrete and Double Surface Dressing.The National Works Agency is asking motorists who use this corridor to obey the instructions of flag persons and posted warning signs while work is in progress.
