The National Works Agency (NWA) says roadways in St Mary and St. Thomas have been seriously affected by persistent rains. According to the NWA the main road between Bethel Gap and Mahagony Vale in St. Thomas is now impassable. The NWA says the communities of White Ford and Mahagony Vale have also been affected. Stephen Shaw, the NWA's manager of communication and customer services says heavy siltation and floodwaters are blocking the main thoroughfare in White Ford, while a section of the approach to the Ford at Mahagony Vale has been washed out making the community of Hagley's Gap inaccessible. He says a team from the NWA attempted to travel to Mahagony Vale this afternoon, but could not get beyond White Ford. Persons wishing to travel to Mahagony Vale will have to do so through St. Andrew. In the meantime, the NWA says the Junction Road in St. Mary is also impassable in the community of Grande Hole. The road is being blocked by landslides. Mr Shaw says the NWA has mobilized a crew and is now in the process of having the Junction Road re-opened. He says the NWA is also monitoring the situation at the Rio Grande Bridge, where the water level has risen to a threatening height. The water is now reportedly threatening the bridge that is used to access the town of Port Antonio from St. Margaret's Bay.
