Work on the newly laid National Stadium track should be completed by Saturday.Following a delay in December, work was scheduled to be completed on Tuesday, two days before the original date of the Gibson Relays.However, continuous rain for most of last week prevented work from being carried.On Tuesday afternoon workers were observed putting the final touches to the structure, including lane numbers.Officials explained that an official from Holland will arrive in Jamaica Thursday evening and will take at least two days to complete certification of the track.Major Desmon Brown, General Manager for Independence Park Limited, which is responsible for the upkeep of the National Stadium, said he expects everything to be in place for the certification as the new track will have at least one glaring benefit over the previous one."Based on information that we have, it should be just a durable as the other tracks. Another thing about this track is that because of the way it is built, it should be easier to repair," he said.The track will carry a 5 year durability guarantee but must also conform to all the IAAF requirements in order to be internationally certified to host World Athletics Championships, Olympic Games or area meets.
