Prime Minister Bruce Golding says Haitian president Rene Preval has indicated he is satisfied members of the Haitian Under-17 football team were not mistreated while in Jamaica. He was speaking this afternoon in parliament following an update from the Sports Minister, Olivia Grange on the just-concluded CONCACAF Under-17 football championship which was staged in Montego Bay, St. James. The Haitians withdrew from the tournament after members of the team tested positive for malaria. Golding said he spoke with Preval during a CARICOM meeting in Grenada over the weekend and the matter has been resolved. Meanwhile, Grange again offered sympathies to the people of Haiti that illness affected their participation in the tournament. Yesterday Public Defender, Earl Witter, announced he had begun investigating the circumstances under which the team left Jamaica following a request from his counterpart in Haiti.
