Culture Minister Olivia 'Babsy' Grange has started a move to convince the local authorities to exonerate National Hero Marcus Garvey of criminal charges.Ms. Grange spoke about the issue in Gordon House on Tuesday as she presented copies of the 1923 transcripts of Garvey's trial to the House of Representatives."The trial tarnished Garvey's reputation (and) slowed his global movement but did little to diminish the impact of his message which struck a cord in the hearts and minds of black people worldwide. Today, I wholeheartedly agree with those before me to have Marcus Garvey's name cleared," she said.Marcus Garvey was convicted by the United States government of mail fraud and deported to Jamaica in 1927, despite millions of signatures petitioning for his full pardon.
