The number of students facing de-registration at the University of the West Indies, Mona campus had been reduced to 500 on Monday. Monday was the end of the extended deadline for students to make tuition payments for the second semester of studies.According to President of the UWI Guild of Students, Javaughn Neil, students have been paying their tuition or arranging payment plans with the university."For students who had accessed payment plans and such the University is facilitating those students and granting extensions at their discretions based on the consistency in their payments in keeping with the payment plan they have established. For students who are just now trying to establish payment plans, if they had paid up to 50% of their fees then the University is also looking to facilitate them," Mr. Neil said.Mr. Neil said he would not know until Tuesday if any student will be de-registered. On February 7, up to 2,000 students at the UWI were temporarily spared de-registration, following the expiration of the initial tuition payment deadline.
