Normal operations are expected to resume at the Providenciales International Airport in the Turks and Caicos Islands on Friday, following a sick out by public servants. Flights into and out of the islands were disrupted yesterday because of the industrial action by firefighters and other government employees.It was in response to a call by the Civil Service Association to take part.Earlier this month the union put forward a list of proposals to the government requesting changes to payroll and pensions, and demanded a reply within seven days.A government statement said that work on a detailed response will soon be completed and is expected to be issued by the end of this week.The statement said the the union's action is likely to backfire, by causing a delay in the payment of wages.
