Can i ask why...?

... why the decision to add a news feed to the community? it seems antithetical to while idea of a discussion board, as the "poster" is just providing one-way info and doesnt interact as a regular community member would. it's spam, essentially.

i confess i really dislike coming to jcans.com now and having to wade thru all the lightbulbs to find threads made by real people.

is there any plan to create the option of not viewing posts from "newsnow"?

I find the spam annoying and intrusive. I don't even bother looking on here with my phone anymore and it is annoying to spend so much time wading in a river of do do, for lack of a better non censored word for what comes out of the back end of a donkey's butt!

at the risk of sounding crabby, i'd like to say thanks Magic but the concern has been raised and reviewed before.

it would be useful to have confirmation of what action can be taken - particularly if there is an option to not view those posts or that forum at all. i understand some folks on here like that forum, but for those of us who don't, can u help us not be bombarded by it?

The home page has a section that seems to have breaking news posts and the hot topics section appeared to have the same thing. I have temporarily disabled the newsforum topics from appearing in the active topics section. Xavier has the ability to make the changes permanent. Let me know if this helps for all involved (the newssites and forum users)

wasn't this started as a response to people wanting up-to-the-minute news during the Dudu's/TG crisis? there were so many duplicate threads and stray pieces of information flying around, if i recall correctly, all those similar news threads were given their own section to keep everything together, and keep track of what the HAYUL was going on in the TG nightmare.

As I also recall, that was also that same reason FB's 'on the ground news' was started - and now that has become a &quot;catch-all&quot; for any piece of happening news. (much of it totally petty and trivial IMHO)

it was wonderful to have when the crisis was goin down, but now I think it's outlived its' usefulness - i agree it's annoying and really doesn't fit the idea of a &quot;discussion&quot; board.

i'll get in line to vote for getting rid of it altogether.... if i want hard news i'll go check a news website. This place is for hangin on the verandah and chatting.

You're right sistacaf. That was the catalyst for this subforum.


Let's hope that with Kia's fix, the posts will no longer bother those that don't want to see them on their mobiles/ active topic lists, and those that still like the one-stop-shop for new and idling can enjoy this forum.
