NBC Today Show to feature TVJ Smile Jamaica this Thursday, June 23
America’s number one morning television programme, NBC’s Today Show, will broadcast a special TVJ Smile Jamaica feature on Thursday, June 23 during the last hour of the Today Show. NBC will post the feature on the Today Show’s website the same day. Two months ago, popular Today Show hosts Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb journeyed to Jamaica and jointly hosted Smile Jamaica with TVJ’s Simon Crosskill, Neville Bell, Simone Cooper-Clarke and Carlette DeLeon. The show was filmed at Half Moon, A Rock Resort in Montego Bay. The Smile Jamaica feature is the grand finale of a series with Today Show anchors literally packing their bags and travelling to amazing vacation destinations.
The Today Show dominates ratings in America’s morning news and entertainment arena, serving as the overwhelming favorite for more than 15 years. Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb are two of seven hosts who bring the Today Show tradition to millions of viewers across the USA and around the world. The Smile Jamaica feature is intended to boost the Today Show’s ratings as NBC competes aggressively with features and series finales to increase viewership and influence advertising rates.
Commenting on the upcoming Today Show feature, Television Jamaica’s General Manager, Kay Osborne, said, “The Smile Jamaica feature will be watched by millions of Americans and others from around the world. This is great publicity for Jamaica. We couldn’t pay for this so we’re delighted that we pulled off such a major coup for Jamaica. We sincerely thank our sponsors and partners, especially the Jamaica Tourist Board and Half Moon resort, who helped make this venture successful. Both the Today Show and Smile Jamaica teams are delighted with the production, the collaboration was outstanding.”
John Lynch, Jamaica’s Director of Tourism and Chairman of Jamaica Tourist Board, said the show presents a rare, prestigious opportunity that heightens the visibility of the Jamaica destination to a global audience. Lynch added, “the Smile Jamaica show with NBC’s Kathy Lee and Hoda gives exposure to the Jamaica experience we enjoy every day. With the US-based version of the show set to air this week, Jamaica will be seen by millions of viewers around the world. We’re honored to provide a taste of our culture to a vast audience. This milestone will benefit the tourism sector by heightening awareness of our vacation offerings.”
TVJ’s Smile Jamaica executive producer, Claudette Robinson said, “We’re thrilled that viewers overseas will watch a Smile Jamaica feature on American network television. Our team produced a great show in a very short time frame. The Today Show team is ecstatic, feedback from viewers who watched the show live on TVJ and on the internet has been great. That makes us very proud.”
Smile Jamaica is broadcast each weekday between 6:00 am and 8:30 am on Television Jamaica (TVJ) and is streamed live online at televisionjamaica.com.
