That would be fun. First I have heard of it and I used to spend 2 - 3 days a week in court. Where do we apply, how much does it pay.
I still remember when this lady tried to say she couldn't afford to pay a maintenance order for her kid in foster care. Judge asked how much she saved by the child not being at home. The resposne:
"Mi noh know you Honah....we hall heat outta de same pot."

Man those judges had a hard time when de yawdie dem fus start fe hit dem court room.

Re: Patois Translator - New York
I did it last year and it turned into several successive gigs for me... I did 3 court appearances and one written translation - it was decent money for little work and I enjoyed it...
I even did it while I was home for the summer. The agency and I keep in touch.
Too bad I'm not there now - I would definitely do it.
Thanks for the opportunity Xavier

Re: Patois Translator - New York
Still waiting for the information so I can apply for Patois translation for the courts. I guess the poor judge dem just couldn't understand de people.
There was another case where the guy accused another guy of threatening him:
Lawyer: What did he say that was threatening?
Witness: Him say mi come fe chop up you BC?
Lawyer: When he said that what did he mean?
Witness: im mean me. 'im come to chop up ME!!
Canadian Judge: (confused) So YOU are the BC??
Jamaicans in the court burst out laughing.
Canadian Judge: Order!! Order in the court or I will have the room cleared!
Man some people have no sense of humour.

Re: Patois Translator - New York
WHat Mgee said or you can reach out to translation agencies... most courts have agencies that they use on a contract basis for the less popular languages...
They will keep translators on hand for SPanish, French, etc. rare languages like patois
they will contract with an agency.
