'Not another' silly season'
WITH speculation heightening that the country could be forced to the polls this year, pending the outcome of several court challenges over dual citizenship held by parliamentarians of the ruling Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), constitutional lawyer Bert Samuels says the members of the legislature should tread cautiously.
Complete Story Not another silly season ...

Re: Lawyer say's No to an election now!
I actually think that the spirit of tthe constitution has been breached...
The solution is simple get every one to declare in parliment that they renounce all alliances and citzenships. Thus this can be entered in paliment record. In addition they must send each MP to send a signed letter to the popular emassies ie UK, US and Kanada.... There may be a constitutional question that allows commonwath citzens to be MP's.. Not renewing is a fudge.. I beleive Seaga did renouce his US citzenship...
I thought that election offical who resigned that was unnessesary.. as he is a servant of the law as opposed to a framer of the law...
But since Cuddley Deadly is in Maimi I wonder how many other comrades have that right of residency!

Mr. Seaga did renounce his Citizenship but this provision would not have affected him because he did not of his own volition seek to commit himself to another flag. To this end Mr. Seaga was and remains a true patriot.

It is a little hard to explain but when the Elections Commission was formed it was to extend the same protection of a Cabinet position to the Director, hence the same strictures. The problem is that only Eddie Seaga and Abe Dabdoub read the laws and Constitution of Jamaica so even the Director of Elections, to say nothing of the Leadership of the Political Parties, seems not to know exactly what was in the Constitution and that some of the Office holders and persons seeking Office are or where potentially in breach.
