Bruce Golding is making sense in his pronouncements on the dual citizenship saga in the front page RJR story. The calls from persons to have MPs declare their citizenship status or for the Speaker of the House to inquire on the citizenship status of MPs are essentially meaningless since the constitution does not prohibit dual citizens from serving in the house only those who by virtue of their own act are under allegiance to a foreign power. Only a court of law can decide on such matters. Note that Zalia Mcallla in her ruling said that Vaz would have been eligible to sit in parliament if he had not renewed his US passport when he became an adult. An MP having dual citizenship status therefore tells us nothing about their eligibility to sit in parliament.
I hope however that Golding will not delay and give the comrades calling for new elections what they are asking for.
