I have to say that was one of the best interviews I've ever seen.....from the interviewer's perspective that is. Boy this Stephen Sackur guy did his homework. To be able to call up facts and information about an individual and a locale that you are not resident in the way he did shows that he is a serious journalist and did some serious homework. You would almost certainly never see or hear anything like this on American TV and not in the Jamaican media(except for maybe Mutty Perkins) - its all usually mostly dumbed down fluff questions. I have never seen Bruce ruffled or phased - his greatest strength is after all that he is an excellent communicator - but he seemed out of his element to me and to be really caught off guard by the directness and intensity of the questions. Bruce must a thought he was going to be on profile with Ian Boyne or was going to be interviewed by Katie 'look at my pretty legs' Couric. Not a good showing for Bruce at all. Score 1 point for Stephen Sackur.

Indeed - he was certainly seeming caught off guard. He didn't seem out of his element to me but SURELY caught off guard and surprised by the severity of the questions.

Would that interviewers would put it to them ALL MORE!

It's a good thing that Mr Golding was elected and is pulling Jamaica up and out of the mess it was put into by the PNP isn't it?.
Just imagine how much worse things would be if PORTIA had been left in power.

I've long held that there isn't a penny's worth of difference between the PNP and the JLP as far as their respective abilities to improve conditions in Jamaica and Mr Golding et al are proving my point.

So Jamaican voters, where are you going now?

I don't see how you can blame the JLP for 7 months of Crime that has ran 1500+ for over a decade but gwaan try noh?

Let me just say this though I am an expert when compared to the little that you pretend to know and the even less that you actually know. Portia Simpleton-Miller's Constituency is one of the single most bloody in Jamaica.

Secondly that killing field is only followed by 3 more areas, all held by the top Leadership of the PNP. One of the problems with crime in Jamaica is the PNP was incapable of ending it in their own Constituency and the JLP was too weak as an Opposition on in calling them on it.

More PNP have killed PNP, more PNP has killed JLP than JLP has done any PNP killings over the 18 years of PNP rule.
Over those years the crime has dramatically shifted from politically manipulated to Street of Street Gang Wars, hence the decline in JLP Fighters attacking PNP, except in Spanish town, parts of Clerendon and South Side Central Kingston.

Now for years the PNP has not listened to any argument about doing one thing to end the Crime and Violence, but since the JLP has come to power we have already, by a simple Petition caused a changed of at least direction.
As you can see Bruce Golding has decided to take tough questions on unfamiliar grounds, have you ever seen PJoke on one of these shows talking about Crime, Corruption, or Homophobia (which is funny because he himself was a Poff)?

Its all a load of bullsht anyway,the country is f...ed up and there is no amount of hand wringing,or media interviews going to change anything,the rot already set in,yu cant change people`s mindset with fancy talk or knee jerk short term programs.

No sah! There is hope. Countries gone bad ah morning like Cuba, Singapore, Viet Nam, Australia with their population of rogues back a century and a half ago have turned the tide and have overcome the odds.

Why cant Jamaica do likewise?

We can, with leadership and targets. We can rid ourselves the scourge of backwardness and greed by providing somethings of value and civility which will make murderers and corrupt politicians think again. Not for themselves but for the nation of Jamaica, once we get back an amount of pride where we respect the right to life and the pursuit of happiness.

I kinda feel that Bruce is mining the wrong waters; he needs to make his case at home.
At time when answering to the Human Rights and corruption charges he echoed the same tired excuses that others before him did.

But I disagree that the country has to be written off. Singapore came out of its hole. I think there is dearth of talent in the 1st and 2nd tier leadership of both Parties right now.
I think the need to dig deeper and find the 30 something’s running around out there and push them forward.

Well I certainly hope that whatever it takes will materialise soon,I feel sorry for people who have to live in fear and poverty every day,I really hope I can see a change in my lifetime.

All noble stuff Q,.but while its in some people`s interest for the status quo to continue I`m afraid it will be a long struggle.

Maybe in the next 10 or so years I think, but in five years things might be materially different.
