Yep.... that what they did in the 70s, caused us to starting using tin Mackerel, Chicken Back and Tun Corn Meal as staple. Just as soon as they got back in power they made sure Jamaicans returned to Dawg food and seemed to be very proud of it.

Chicken Back is a product of the USA Factory Meat system to would have been discarded or rendered for animal feed or fertilizer if we did not take a liking to it.

It is not chicken back as some think chicken back would be healthier,because it is the remnants of healthy chickens after the premium parts hav ebeen remived. What Jamaica buts i scalled <span style="font-weight: bold">chicken parts</span>. The difference is that thes are the parts of chickens that had abnormal growth after the growth has been removed. It is not allowed to human consumption in the Us,but they export it to foregn markets. they call it chicken back either becauise they don't know, or because they want to fool the people. </div></div>


Dr. Dudd, that's not entirely true. Chicken back is just that, the back of the chicken and chicken parts is chicken divided into breast, legs, thighs and wings.

The back is what remains after the other other meaty parts have been removed. I live in Europe and chicken back and parts is sold here in the best supermarkets as main ingredient for chicken soup. Further chicken parts are more expensive that whole chicken, because the buyer has the chance to choose his favourite part and is definately good for human consumption. It is even possible to buy your favourite parts deboned.

I personally see nothing wrong with eating chicken back, tin mackerel and tun cornmeal if people choose to. Wrong is when they are eaten because people cannot afford anything better.

What I know is that Jamaica's poor suffer, regardless of which party in power.

So are you saying that the chicken parts that are sold in Jamaica is the same chicken back that is sold in Europe? And how do you know that the same trick is not being played in Europe on the there consumers too?
Have you ever enquirre into the Jmaican chicken parts, and their source?
Do you know how many times cointainers of chiucken parts have been coindemned in Jamaica,and the shippers claim and re-export it?
They use to send them to the rown dump, only to have scavengers reclaiming some and re-sell to unsuspoecting consumers and small corner shop for cheap. They have since discontinued that strategy.

Dr may or may not be correct, while I cannot speak with certainty about the imported Chicken Backs, but I can do so about the local product.

As one who once worked with one if not the largest Broiler Company in the Country and supervised the processing of chicken which includes the cutting of various parts of the chicken. I know what came out of the plant was genuine homegrown chicken; dissected into various parts. The problems were we never have enough (Chicken Back) to supply the market, which let to the importation.

However I don’t want to doubt the good Dr,with reagrds to the imported stuff, as a fact the questions have been asked before, <span style="font-weight: bold">“are the imported stuff genuine or not?”</span> So much so that a now Minster of Government a former employee of one of the largest importers of goods and products for the Country including Chicken Backs, had the duty to verify before importing that this and any meat imported by the company, was genuine. If my memory serves me right he or another employee under his supervision visited a few processing plants in the US and was satisfied they were. Yes there was a big uproar when they found out that Chicken Back that they caused Jamaicans to move from using as dog food was then regarded as waste in the USA. When that happened he someone I can’t remember who went to the USA to see how it was processed and packaged.

Years later the PNP Leadership is still concerned about making Dawg Food affordable for the poor they create.
