the west was civilized by every person requiored to carry a fire arm. so every person could defend themselves, that reduced the potential for people with guns creating havoc.
As long as they all have guns there were very few attacks. That is why jamaican police get guns to stop attacks against them. Now if the citizens get guns,which criminal will be crazy enough to try a thing against them??

what Jamaica has is a cpmplete different ball game.
More like shooting fishes in a barrel, with unarmed people up against armed criminals.

I think the main priority for Jamaica is to get rid of the mentality of carrying guns,not to flood the populace with more guns,we`ve seen the horrors of people running around with guns,more wont solve the problem,I would rather see a Jamaica where people learn to settle their differences in a civilised manner,and a Jamaica where only an uncorrupted police force carry guns.

There is a big differencre between thinking and solving the problem.probably because of my training, but I have a feeling that I was luke that before. I don't juast talk about ideals and what is happennoing in other places where p[eople can get food and their rent paid if they and their children are hungry.

there is an unusual thin called knowledge, yes it is unusual,inthat itcannot be removed frpom those who have it without inmjuring the person.The only thing wa can do is to make it safer to for people to live with it. That is also common with arms. once it is out there the only safe way to live with it,is to protect yourself with deterrence. the only deterrence Jamaica can afford for the near futurer, is a legally armed populace. Anything else is a fool's paradise.

Ok,lets look at it this way,when I lived in Jamaica over 30 years ago some business people held legal firearms,and there were the odd incidences of people being killed by guns,mostly in kingston,down in my neck of the woods in Montegobay there were hardly any incidences at all,and if you travelled further down the island it was almost non existent.
Now we hear of people being killed everyday by guns,..what exactly has happened during the last 30 years or so,..what are the conditions that were present then that arent present now,...why is it that the mentality of people have changed so dramatically during the last 30 years,.....that is what I am alluding to when I say get rid of the mentality of carrying guns.

I am not too much of an idealist not to know that there will always be deviants in the society,and that there will always be people prepared to achieve their aims with guns or whatever weapons of choice they find effective,....but this kind of mentality didnt exist in the 70`s before I left Jamaica,..most scores were settled with a knife cut to the face.

Well knowledge is the key. In th edays when few criminasls would attack a gunwoner was so because then the advantage were in favour of the gun ownwes. today the advantage is in favour of the criminals.
ther is a military stratwegy that state to be a victor, never attack with equal or inferior forces. Always attack with overwhelming superiority, and with the element of surprize on your side..
It also state that deterrance is the best or most efficient means of protection.
In bothe areas,the Jamaican situation is infavour of the criminals. they have th eelement of surprize,because you only recognize them during and asfter the attasck. the next thibg is that deterrant cannot be creayed,by a force that cannot prevent attack,but onlt react after the fact.
deterrent relies on the citizens and how well they are protected on a daily basis. not just when the police is around.
ther is no deterrent in the Jamaican scurity strategy, for the black members of the population that is.
But ther certainly is for the white and other races.
that is why they rarely is ever attacked by gunmen. which gunman want to look in the business end of s firearm, held in the hand of their attacker?
I know Why are educated blacks so resistant to the only action that will secure the country. It is a matter because the education system misinform them into reasonng that it is best for them.
Just like th esheep. teach them that getting inchag=rge of their freedoms will be damaging,and they simply accept it without really realizing that they are cindemning themselves to where the farmer wan't them until he is readt yo send them to market.

RJR News understands that a man who was fingered as the main suspect in the killing of the two policemen on Labour Day, surrendered to the police on Monday.

But after being questioned, members of the Major Investigation Task Force were forced to release the suspect due to insufficient evidence.

The suspect reportedly turned himself in to the cops at the Denham Town Police Station.

<span style="font-size: 17pt">A senior officer told the RJR News Centre Thursday that the suspect was later released because the police had no evidence linking him to the crime.</span>

The suspect is said to be an area leader in the Trench Town community where Constables Cornell Grant and Delano Lawrence were gunned down.

Two of the suspects involved in the killing of the policemen were shot dead by members of a police/military team in Spanish Town on Monday.

The police have launched a manhunt for two other suspects.
