So I read one of <span style="font-style: italic">Le Monde</span>'s opinion pieces written by an expatriate African in which he states that people back home rely too much on remittances and that it is killing local initiative and economic activity. Apparently it's even becoming commonplace for people to stop planting. They then inform the family member abroad that the crop failed and to send more money.
