Again while this was happening their spokesperson on Labour was in Parliament defending the Pork barrel jobs that they have created over the past 18 years.

Speaking of facts the article itself as I pointed out was laced with incorrect assumptions and plain untruths. The man was a paying customer, the advice the lady got was that the plane was setting off, guy is in the building what should she do?
I say she was wrong, it was gross error of judgment, but the whole thing is being blown out of proportion simply because the Chicken Back Opposition and their Surrogates need to cover their failings in the last 18 years.

The other day when it was pointed out that an Air Jamaica Airline coming off lease was mothballed in Europe for months costing the Taxpayers of Jamaica $Jamillions, how come it was not with so much holy, righteous bleating?

Air Jamaica's Chairperson Shirley Williams has admitted to interfering in the timely departure of a flight in order to accommodate a passenger who had been left behind.

I just heard on POL that 30 passengers on a Flight to the Bahamas had the Air Plane they were on diverted to Mobay to pick up a seat cushion left behind by a Pilot who was then in Chicago and refused to fly because he left his seat cushion behind.

How come the PNP and their waggonists did not scream holy hell on this one?
Where the noise is about waste of fuel and time I wonder?

There is no confirmation yet to reports that the entire board of Air Jamaica has been asked to resign.

A report in Wednesday's Observer newspaper said the entire Air Jamaica board was Tuesday asked to resign amid growing concerns within the Government that the ailing national carrier is being badly managed.

It is reported that a new Board is to be appointed in two weeks.

This comes two weeks after long serving Board member Noel Hylton resigned.

There were reports that Board members were split over the decision to grant a salary increase to some categories of employees at the airline.

On Monday Prime Minister Bruce Golding bemoaned the continued drain on the country's resources by the cash-strapped carrier.

He said then that the airline had recorded US$1 billion in losses for the last financial year.

Mr. Golding also indicated that the government was committed to divesting the airline by March of next year.

Efforts by the RJR News Centre to reach Board Chairman Shirley Williams were unsuccessful as both her home and cellular phones rang unanswered.

Both Finance Minister Audley Shaw and Minister without Portfolio Don Wehby are off the island.

Senior government officials are mum on overnight developments at Air Jamaica.


One of the Directors confirmed reports which surfaced Wednesday that the Board had been asked to resign en bloc.

News of the resignations comes amidst reports that the board was split over a decision to grant a 14% salary increase to some categories of workers.

The Board member told RJR News the letter demanding their resignation was signed by Minister Without Portfolio in the Finance Ministry Senator Don Wehby, who left the island Monday night.

It is understood that Senator Wehby indicated that he would meet with sacked board members on his return to the island on Friday.

Finance Minister Audley Shaw, who left the island earlier this week, is scheduled to return tonight.

Efforts by RJR News to reach Board Chairman Shirley Williams were unsuccessful as she had not turned up at her office.

Calls to her cellular phones went unanswered.

Telephone calls to the Office of the Prime Minister also yielded little success as officers there could not comment on the issue.

Union calls emergency meeting

The National Workers Union (NWU) which represents the majority of Air Jamaica workers has summoned its delegates to an emergency meeting in light of the developments.

It is understood that the Union is concerned that a new board could rescind an agreement reached this week with the existing board for a 14% salary increase to some categories of workers.

NWU President Vincent Morrison told RJR News the latest development is bad news for the staff.

&quot;It must be an issue of incompetence or perhaps not following police directives. This certainly has placed a cloud over the airline ... the moral of the workers is very low and the whole situation is chaotic.

I really believe that a statement is needed from the government,&quot; said Mr. Morrison.

He said investors could be wary if operations at the airline seem unstable.

Pressure is mounting on the Golding administration for Executive Chairman of Air Jamaica Shirley Williams to be added to the list of the airline's Board members who are to be axed.

There have been reports that Miss Williams, who has been the head of Air Jamaica's Board since October last year, will be asked to stay on and lead the new group of directors to be appointed early next month.

Air Jamaica's chairman Shirley Williams has confirmed that some members of the current Board will be retained after June 30.

But Miss Williams refused to give details on Friday morning as to whether she will be retained as chairman or asked to serve as part of the new Board.

She instead referred all questions about the new Board to the Minister with responsibility for the national carrier, Senator Don Wehby.

Miss Williams however confirmed that some members are now serving in a transitional mode, until the June 30 date for a new Board to be put in place.

&quot;There are a small number of us who will not resign until June 30 to ensure continuity so at the moment this is dissolved the new one can be enforced. So we will all be resigning by June 30,&quot; said Miss Williams.

Meanwhile, more light is expected to be shed on the reported dismissal of Air Jamaica's Directors later Friday when Minister Without Portfolio in the Ministry of Finance Senator Don Wehby returns to the island.

He is expected to meet with the displaced members upon his return Friday.

During Wednesday's weekly post Cabinet press briefing Information Minister Olivia &quot;Babsy&quot; Grange said Senator Wehby will make a statement on the issue.
