THE Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) last night confirmed a newspaper report coming out of the United Kingdom that the British army intends to recruit in Jamaica.
Spokesperson for the JDF, Major Charlene Steer, told the Observer that she wasn't sure if the details had yet been worked out but that she had been informed of the overseas
army's intention.
"I know that the British army is coming to Jamaica to recruit, but that's all I know," she said.
The Herald said the army was coming to Jamaica in order to boost its depleted forces but the Observer was unable to confirm this with the defence department of the British Embassy in Jamaica.
Minister of National Security and former army man, Colonel Trevor McMillan, however, told the Observer he was unaware of the plans of the Britons but said they would pose no particular problems if they were to be carried out.
