The St. James Parish Council has approved amended building plans submitted by the developers of the RIU Hotel located at Mahoe Bay three months after the developers were served with a stop notice and instructed to demolish the hotel's fourth floor.
After months of controversy, the developers have made changes to the building plans of the multi-billion dollar hotel.
It is reported that the amendments are in compliance with the rules and regulations of the Parish Council and the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
Members were informed at Wednesday's Council meeting that all other buildings on the property that were above the recommended height were modified.
According to letters read at the meeting, the National Environment and Planning Agency and the CAA have completed inspections of the property.
Mayor of Montego Bay, Councillor Charles Sinclair who was upset at what he described as the developers' disregard for building regulations said the Council will continue to monitor the development to ensure full compliance.
In April, the developers of RIU found themselves in trouble after it was discovered that some buildings on the property were constructed above the height recommended by the CAA.
It was later revealed that the building plans were not approved by the St. James Parish Council.
