MY OPINION ON THE SIMPSON-MILLER VICTORY
The thing about PNP leader Mrs Simpson Miller is she, like Jamaican politicians in general do not have any conviction about anything serious. Their main "quality" is self-obsession.Simpson Miller is no different but is a typical example of the type of negative personality that Jamaica is creating these days - extremely backward,no talent, cant bother with self-education but are the loudest people around and lack any sense of shame. The only thing that "upsets" them is when the perceive they are being "dissed". This comes from an permanent sense of "inferiority" and the only people they think are "educated" are white people. Whenever they come across educate blacks, they resent them. The power-base of such personalities are the "educated" sycophants around them who can easily use their intellect to manipulate the "leader" who reward them with promotion.
If Simpson Miller was a man, she would never have got anywhere near the leadership of any organisation. The one thing she is aware of is this "ghetto girl" image which would appeal ignorant voters (who make up a very high proportion of the PNP delegates who voted for her)and when she "speaks" this is the section she subconsciously appeals to and the reason she calls herself "Mamma" and other very stupid outbursts. It is a grave insult to suggest that Simpson Miller represents Jamaica, what she represents is a section of Jamaicans who are ignorant (and almost proud of it) and the very outrageous segment of this section are the very ones causing the most trouble in Jamaican society today and the very ones that a growing number of foreign states are trying to prevent from entering their country.
What is happening is that with the rise of personalitites such as Simpson Miller the PNP is rapidly getting "Ghettoized" in the worsr sense of the word and as such the likes of Peter Phillips did not stand a chance in such an election and the fact that he got so many votes showed that relatively sensible people still exists in the PNP but no longer dominate as they did during the Manley era- under the very un-Jamaican docile "figurehead leader"- Patterson the most backward elements rose to positions of influence within the PNP and the "brazen hussy" was permitted to rise to "fame".
The likes of Peter Phillips and others, who intellectually should have known better just went with the flow, did not oppose any of the bad trends that was developing in Jamaican politics and thought that one day he would easily become PNP President and Jamaica's Prime Minister. He got the reward he deserved bacause that "go with the flow" mentality is not a quality of a leader but the quality of an careerist and an opportunist.
In the end the confirmation of Simpson Miller as PNP leader means that the Party is irretrievably split and for a very long time to come will be rife with splits, dissention, sabotage and internal bitterness. And as the old Portia-backing dishonest and corrupt intellectuals die off the PNP leadership will be replaced by the same type of corrupt and dishonest individuals but with hardly any intellectual ability at all because the individuals that will be promoted will be of the "rough and ready" type who have graduated from the worst side of "the street" and not even from opportunist elements taught at UWI, because most of those will head towards the currently "more respectable" JLP.</span>
