Concrete road in the Gorge
Monday, 29 September 2008
With just days left before the reopening of the Bog Walk Gorge in St Catherine, motorists are being warned that the surface has changed from what they are accustomed to.
The road is now a mixture of concrete and asphalt.
Reginald Allen, Communications Manager at the Ministry of Transport, says a mile of the road is concrete and motorists should be careful when traversing the Gorge.
"It's really part of the process of making the road durable, able to withstand the ravages of the Rio Cobre which often inundates the road ... Bouygues have introduced in tandem with the ministry, concrete surfacing in segments and motorist are being advised to use the road carefully," he said.
Mr. Allen also warned that when the road is reopened motorists should try to avoid speeding.
