What I did say, very clearly, is that I don't think that <span style="font-weight: bold">writing campaigns from abroad</span> would have real impact.

Why?

I don't see how this would apply any pressure to the powers that be to make the changes that are needed.

As I said before, as with most things - don't care if you're trying to lose weight or leave the husband that beats you - no signifcant progress will be made unless it comes from within.

Letter writing from the diaspora will amount to little if we <span style="font-weight: bold">IN</span> Jamaica are supporting the status quo - and no doubt - we all know there are those who support it.

Come on now Newt - we're all human.

It's hard not to care - hard.

We all have family and friend alike at home.

And yes, we should care.

I'll admit - I've seen a few things and had a few experiences this year at home that have made me start to wonder <span style="color: #FF0000"><span style="font-weight: bold">if</span></span> there's any hope!

Even if the solutions aren't right in front of us or hard to reach - doesn't mean they're OUT of reach, we should still care.

I tell you one thing that'd cause an uprising ...

Can you imagine if there was a campaign/agreement in the disapora to halt all remittance until the govt got their arse in gear!

I don't know exactly what the solution is but more &amp; more, I feel it's not in the diaspora.

If it were, with all the brilliant minds we have IN the diaspora, we'd have found it by now.

Meanwhile 3 more citizens were murdered on Sunday in the area where I live. 2 men said to be working on a car at a home(not a yard) were approached and shot dead in the middle of the day.
Later at about 7pm a man met a simular fate at the field where many of us jog and walk at dawn.

The killings continue unabated. There`s not a clue in sight to stop this. Perhaps only another catastrophe might bring about a halt. A major natural disaster or maybe a continuation of this genocide until when people decide it`s time to come forward and identify the murderers and allow justice to follow its course, even if it takes personal sacrifice to turn up as a crown witness in court.
Most witnesses are afraid to come forward. What the diaspora could offer is an effective witness protection programme in collaboration with approval from governments locally and abroad until a majority of suspects have met their full time in court.
Only until when there are indictions, trials and convictions where the message will be sent that when caught they will pay the price for the crimes they commit.
Too many escape and therefore repeat their crimes knowing very well that by getting away and not getting caught even after being detained, nothing will prevent them from becoming career serial killers.

Lol,....just putting a bit of humour into the situation.

Anyway,as you say,I do care,but I know the situation isnt likely to ever change,
lets face it,the Jamaican mentality seems to be to settle everything by violence,and not just in the cities,even in the most rural areas people will chop you up for stealing a chicken,in that kind of society dont expect any dramatic changes soon.
what I really would like to see stop though is extra judicial killings by the police,and police treating citizens like it was a police state and abusing people`s human rights.

And I really would like to finally see Jamaica with a government that has the backbone to tackle the institutionalised corruption that is rampant throughout all areas of Jamaican,not just in the political arena but in the police,and right down to taxi men avoiding their taxes.

True Q - true. Sad, but true.

Earlier this year, I came to realize that there's little chance things will change.

Don't get me wrong - am not saying its hopeless.

So long as there's life, there's hope.

And there's solutions out there too - <span style="font-weight: bold">I just don't think it's going to come from the diaspora.</span>

In a way, nor should it.

The JA Govt is accountable, first and foremost, to the Jamaican people LIVING IN JAMAICA. If those people don't hold the govt accountable, then almost no one can.

Daily I wonder, what will it take for peeps to rise up, open their eyes and hold these 'leaders' to task ...

The divisiveness, the corruption, lack of capability to lead, ... sure I could be wrong but it's hard for me to see a letter writing campaign tackle this.

I said this is what we must do for over ten years I have been trying to get one going.
Only one, a Petition was started and believe me Mr. Golding stood up and took notice. Now if we were serious and followed it up with more sustain efforts in the media local and foreign things would be different.

I am not just talking about emails, but a full frontal assault with snail mail, emails, telephone calls and facts.

I suppose really all governments are bad one way or the other. I must admit living abroad tends to demand our attention in other aspects immediate. What about involving foreign media even youtube to also highlight and name and shame. I have seen where for instance foreign media has made Mugabe concede where he otherwise wouldn't have, Mandela freed and apartheid outlawed when international media attention is focused. Bright light need to shine in the dark corners of jamaica's failing consecutive governments.

Good idea. Get foreign media crews to come give more views to the world what`s concealed in the closets of corruption and gangsta culture as have some in the past done. Perhaps Govt. can be forced to do something when such exposure causes real embarassment.
Foreign media would be more effective than local media because local media would face serious repercussions whilst foreign media would hit and run.

We were all consumed with the brutal killing of children over the past few weeks. I think most well-thinking people in this country were traumatised. As a society, we have failed to ensure the safety of innocent children.

But what is the big fuss about? This is not the first time this has happened and it certainly will not be the last. Soon, the conversation will shift to the killing of old people and then women and then pregnant women and so on.
I am no longer surprised. The fact is that this country is perfectly designed to achieve all the things we are currently experiencing. <span style="color: #FF0000">[b]Things will not change until we change. Jamaica has to go through some fundamental changes[/b</span>].

What's wrong with Jamaica

This is a country with great potentials. We see it every day and our athletes have certainly demonstrated this. Unfortunately, some things have gone wrong.

What's wrong with Jamaica is simply this - we have become an unlawful, disorganised, unstructured, loose and permissive society. Everything goes and our response to everything is, 'ah no nutten'.

Let us look at our society. Our people are allowed to build in river beds and, when their homes are washed away, they expect the Government to provide aid. Politicians have allowed people to squat and settle wherever they want to. They destroy the watershed as they wish and, when the communities are flooded, cry for help.

We are allowed to walk the streets, litter the place as we like and discard our garbage wherever we care to. Is this the sort of country we want to live in? We urinate wherever we want to and spit wherever we want to. We are seen as a nasty and unhealthy set of people. Is this how we want to be seen?

We have a poor public transportation system that allows drivers and conductors to play lewd music and make offensive and inappropriate sexual advances on our children. The general public is allowed to play loud and offensive music at anytime, anywhere and without respect for each other's rights.

Churches are allowed to build structures wherever they want to and are also allowed to disturb neighbours, as much as the sound system man. Also, the rich are allowed to build their houses wherever they choose, without paying attention to town planning laws.

Regulate the country

I could continue on and on with this list. But, the grim reality is that if we do not start to regulate this country and make it more ordered, structured and lawful, we are doomed. The politicians are to be blamed because many of them have allowed this state of affairs to continue to facilitate voting pockets. They may remain in power but at the expense of a country that has fallen apart.

Politicians need to govern

For too long they have been running the country to win elections. Our politicians need to run this country so that we can have an ordered and lawful society. Only then will Jamaica experience growth, be better able to contain the monster of violence and be a safer place for our children.

So, while I sympathise with the murder and mayhem and while I condemn the killing of our children, I am saying that things will not change until we restore the society to order and a state of lawfulness. This has to be a society where the rights of everyone are respected and one that is not permissive and loose.

These are some of the things that must change. We have to decide what we want.

Q – not doing well at all today.

Say a prayer for me.

So a relative of mine was killed Wednesday night? – in his home in St Mary. His body was discovered yesterday morning.

We’re all trying to figure what it was that could have driven ANYONE to murder a 75 year old man. It’s reported that the killer(s) waited for him inside his house for him to return.

I got the call yesterday morning and I literally fell to my knees. This is my distant uncle – a business man in the community. It doesn’t seem like a routine robbery gone wrong because of how they broke into the house. Is like seh who dweet guh deh fi di EXPRESS purpose of killing him.

I think it’s somehow connected to a business thing gone wrong or not the way someone wanted. Over the past month, he said he’d been getting private call on his cell threatening him. He went to the Gayle Police – they said there was nothing they could do.

Grill wasn’t touched at all.

They broke in thru a single small window that sits high up, almost near the roof. The back of the house is high up of the ground with stilts like. This makes the window extremely high up from the ground – I’d say over 30+ feet. The window isn’t grilled because it’s so high up off the ground. How on earth they got up there – who to tell.

My father in law was very close to him – as well as my husband. Now my husband and I ketch up because I don’t WANT him to even think about going out there for the funeral.
