WESTERN BUREAU:
Counselling sessions are expected to begin today at the Anchovy High School in St James, where a watchman was shot and killed yesterday morning.
School administrators suspended classes after the body of the guard, 57-year-old Lloyd Miller, of Catadupa in the parish, was discovered in a classroom sometime after 6 a.m.
Principal Claudette Hudson, who worked with Miller for the past 11 years, told The Gleaner she had called in guidance counsellors and the Ministry of Education's trauma unit. She described him as a "hard worker, reliable and very mannerly".
Police said the grille was removed from a section of the building leading to the principal and bursar's office. Two laptops and $1 million in cash were taken.
Robbery in progress
Reports are that about 11:45 p.m. Tuesday, Miller and another guard heard noises coming from a section of the school and went to investigate. They were surprised by a group of men, one of whom had a gun.
The armed man opened fire at the guards. Miller's body was found the following morning. The second guard managed to escape unhurt.
