Some one with whom I am closely connected had a gorgeous home in Billy Dunn. The first time I visited it, I thought I was in a Hollywood movie. I was.





When our folks asked us who we wanted to live with if they passed away before we became adults...guess who we picked..... Notice we didn't pick one of the poor relations though we love all of our relatives dearly.

Anyway, he passed away and his wife inherited the property. She lives a foreign now so she sold it. The owner tour down this BEAUTIFUL home and put up a gawdy monster home on the same property.

Speaking of poor relations.....fast forward many decades....Some of our older relatives from up soh inna de miggle a nowhere now have grown grandchildren. Is nuff a dem and some have been abroad for years. Most of them are retired. So they have all pooled together and they are putting up a BEAUTIFUL home with a gorgeous view of the island in all directions. When I first visited 25 years ago, they didn't even have electricity. See how quickly things change.

there is a serious issue with in rural Jamaica.. diasporans who left decades ago... built huge houses... 5 six bed rooms... and it seems after they finish a high proportion die or can no longer live in Jamaica. . Their children dont want to live there or they cant because thof these places are located where the local Jamaicans cant afford the houses. so alot of them end up falling slowly into rack and ruin..

Me I want a three bed place up in the hills.. i have see the plot of land... and am thinking in 9 years time...i should have the resources inshallah...

Jamaican retirees at home and abroad are snapping these up, a result of major and petty crimes targeting single-family standalone homes in, yes, rural Jamaica. There is safety in numbers, they say, and condos afford restricted entry, guarded perimeters, and a sense of "our village" among condo residents.

The branch of my family that is building the gorgeous home up inna de ills in de miggle a no where has 3 siblings a foreign. The other 8 siblings live in Jamaica. Is nuff a dem!!! 3 of the siblings, and 1 half sibling still live up inna de ills wid dem pickney and grand pickney. The others live in Kingston. So there will be no issue with anyone living at the new house when it is finished.

life in rural Jamaica is quiet..... u need ur projects... and people teif...lawd wi teif.. i was one such at a point so i get it.. i am not say dem teif.... i am saying wi teif. including mi young self.....

where the land i am interested in is unique in terms of security...the surprising thing is that there are a new number of houses around that dont have burglar bars...I looked at it with the eyes of a kleptomaiac..... was drinking with the local police, and the superintendent of the parish...and they confirmed low and falling crime in the area. but rising in the towns ..and even the extent that the cow rancher agreed that he had no stolen in the last 12 months...

The police was telling me tales of families at war with retunrees sharing houses with local cousins and the chap up biznes...as the canadians cyan get use to Jamaican ways

Crime in rural Jamaica proper seems low compared to say in towns of any size... the simple reason is that the bad roads keep outsiders out, security confirmed by inaccessibility! there is a licence system for animals that seems to have helped.. surprised me.. My perceptioon is that crime is falling or is being better hidden...

there is also a surprise for me a falling rural population....Poverty is being transferred from country to urban centres in ST the towns are growing but the population of the parish remains the same .... a hell of a lot of abandoned houses and houses with old people...shouldn't be a surprise....

i lived in the apartheid of gated communities in various locations in Africa...
