Fall off in collection of GCT & other taxes

The downturn in the local economy is being blamed for a major fall-off in the collection of General Consumption Tax (GCT).

According to information from the Finance Ministry, total intake in GCT collection has been more than $6 billion below target.

Between April and January this year, the authorities collected $33.7 billion in GCT, which was below the $39.9 billion that the Finance Ministry had projected to collect.

But GCT was not the only tax which recorded a decline during the 10 months.

According to the Finance Ministry's latest report on Central Government Operations, inflows from stamp duty, motor vehicle licences as well as the betting, gaming and lottery sector did not meet projection

I would assume that most of these 5.000 would have to be gainfully employed because the number is too small for those doing their own thing in order to survive. If that's the case, a thorough examination of registered employers and their records is the place to start. If there are small business or industries not registered or licenced then the Govt should get "Cracking"...

You can't use colonial methods to run government and achieve results of a modern country.

As long as th emajority believe that their plight are not uncluded in the policy decusuins of the country, taxes will not be paid as in otherwise civilized country.

They have ignored the safety of the majoroty in th eeffort to keep them weak and at the mercy of the hoverning elite,and expectt th epeople to trust them with their money that they have to fdaily risk their lives to aquire.

For the ordinary black Jamaican living in th ecountry is a gauntlet they have to rin 24/ hours 7 fays a week. since the purderers are likely to kill them in their beds at night. What has the givernment do aboit that??
They make sure that all other races are able to secure themsselves. As evident in the lack of a mirder rate in those races. But they offer the majoroty all sorts of ineffective ploys,to the ones that are being murdered.

Now as soon as the people start comming to their senses and questining the ineffectie strategy and seeking the only real effective stratedy,the other races that haav eused it as a means to suppressing blacks are tryong to discourage it.

The only solition to the low rax earnings us to allow the mjority of potential tax payers to feel secure so that they can operate busineses, without having to close early,or pay extortion fees. The amount saved from extortion fees wopuld be more than enoigh to cover taxes.
They are paying more than their fair share of taxes to gunmen.
Whey should they have to pay to a government that does not take their intrest into consideration? And arming business people will not improve the situation,any moire than sending out ine ell armed police officer will be at quellinh a riot. Legal weapons must be prevalent. the criminals must be oiiut numbered. Otherwise the weapons will only end up on th earms cache of the murderers as is happenning today.
The right to bear arms is anesential part of any citizens right in a civilized wotld,and until that is accepted in Jamaica, and all the other places where the murder rate is in the roof,they murder rate will only rscalate. If you take away every weapon , tThey will start manufactire it. Just take a look at places like the wesr bank. </span>

Doc, this "Gun Thing" for Jamaica has always been your pet beef. I can remember a time in JA that Guns were never required by anyone for self protection. I guess we were "civilised" and something must have happened to change that situation. To be sure, there were guns but the average Joe did not need any fire arms for protection. You may or may not agree with the foll. statement: ~

(a) If the Governments of Jamaica were serious about gun control beginning, say 40 years ago and was successful at it, there would have been a more "civilised and prosperous" society in Jamaica today. ~

For discussion sakes, Let's take the statement (a) as a fact; Would you believe that the Govt of today would be collecting more taxes based on that fact? It would be like the old days before we have these "gun men" demanding extortion fees?

The words, "the right to bear arms" if I'm correct, is part of the 2nd ammendment in the US Constitution. In all my years growing up in Jamaica, there was never any such "saying or words" remotely associated with their 2nd Ammendment implying that we had those "rights" in Jamaica!.. ~ <span style="font-weight: bold">Now! you are suggesting that we should take on those Rights</span> as ours, even if we call them something else... Doc! I am not sure I understand you...

I am not sure I understand you... </div></div> I notice yoy also stated in a post that Mr Chenyoing is my mentpor,along with this idea that thos or that os my pet beef.What youy don't realize is that many of the innovative changes that Jamaican governments have made originated with me.It is not about likeing a poloicy it is about studyinh it are realizing that it is the appropriate policy.
The thing about me is that I never hang up on anything if it is the best solution for the problem. o am not attached to nothing i own. evenmy original unventions.
as I develope soemething I get ti out to as many people as possible. And again i do not see Mr LeeChin. Reason is that I know much mire economics than he does.
He follows othr economists, i never do. i treat it like i do a mathematical problem. i ussd the principles i was taught and they never fail me. following what others do is nothing less than a kid that copies theor work from another. i never do that. i do it all muself.
Now back to th esibjest if the post. Yes Ithonk the Jamaican constotution shoyld be ammended to make iot more equitable to all races oif people. i also belueve that no government can keep people who want to hav eguns to doi criminal acys bu disatming th emajority.The only reason why a gun is so important to th ecriminal is because it gives them the advantage. If guns were more legally available, the criminals woilf have yirn to white colar crimes. sunce ever so iety has it's criminasl and they will only get less violent. since they do not want to die trying to make a living.

Dudd, as is your custom, your refusal to answer my questions was anticipated. This was just a "test" to prove your "consistency" in not responding to questions... I see that as wilful "avoidance" that is used as a tactic to "deflect" and not wanting to debate... What more can I say?

i also thinkit will be cost prohibitive to support a paid police force to keep the peace in a third world country. When the Us was a third world country everybody had huns, because thet is the only way to preserve the pesce. </span>
