the above statement is made then the statement below is made.. me being cynical ask ehat is the % of our pork is now imported ?????? has consumption fallen ?????
In July 2005, it was reported that Jamaica was producing approximately seven million kilograms of pork per year. However, this was unable to satisfy existing demand, resulting in the importation of pork from Canada to fill 23 per cent of the local demand.
I have confidence in jamaican ability but this raises some questions with me.. I wont raise them least I rain on a parade..I hope it will be expanded an if it is sustainable as well as profitable

Jamaica imports pork even when ther is a glut because it does not manufacture finished ptoducts like, Ham, bacon etc in quantities nor produces the amount of quality cuts needed in the hotel sector. iIn other words, there will always be a need for certaon cuts beyond the number available in siuch a small product capacity. Like you can oget only 2 hams from a pig so even if you have a glit because each pig weighs a ton. Ther are other choice cuts that will always be short in s limited supply zone. What they need to do is to export the difference to nutralize the import factor. ther hould never be a glut in pork. They can even export precooked jerk pork, similat ro the smoked stuff we find in the deli's.
