Re: Is this what we cum tuh?
What's the matter? You got a problem with free enterprise medicine?
Jamaica can always send people to Cuba or (HORRORS!) invite the Cuban doctors back.
Some 60,000 Jamaicans received free and excellent (real doctors) eye treatments and operations from the Cuban people.
But no.... that would be admitting that socialist medicine for the people works and free enterprise/for-profit medicine does not in a poor developing nation.

Re: Is this what we cum tuh?
Sounds like we need to up date the law as there are trained qualified Jamaicans who can provide this service.. The JMA should have sorted this out a long time ago to revise the needs.
and for the record I knew GP's who did general surgery as the need arose back when many doctors were told told that they had ther salaries frozen. But then I suspect that earlier doctors were trained as better generalist than current. but I would listen to Dr Dudds opnion on this issue as he does seem to be better qualified...

</div></div> Yes one of the biggest, don't bother with any qyalification. But before the '76 laws, anyone coyld practice, and they were in th ebusiness long before that. I even belueve that they influential in the low fines, that makes it not worth th ewhile to prosecute.
Jamaica has been ru8n for th ebenefit of a few fpr a long long time. It is just that they keep the majority so busy trying to find food, that they never even realize until now that they han look around. They think the sky is falling. while the others, are wondering, what's up all of a sudden??
We have been doing this for generations

though the extent of the training doe not make them that proficient but who is asking. In Jamaica they really don't value the lives of the majoropty to that extent any way. unless the act is done by one of their peers.
Incidentally Mico students were used fpr ginea pogs by the Us department of health for decades. The student didn't knbow what was happenning.
I have access to a lot of the raw data. even including the names and pictures.

Doc, before you move into the "they are all trained" the piece clearly stipulates that these "eye quacks" were UNTRAINED...there is a difference...and that is what the piece is addressing...how slack the situation is that ppl can set up shop and a call demself yeye doctah and no haff no training...sinting rang dehsoh..
all this reminds me of the how many Jamaicans who reportedly went to Cuba for cataract surgery cuppla months/years aback and ALLEGEDLY developed whole heap a complication for a procedure that is seen as relatively minor eye surgery. Years aback wi nevah hear bout dem yah sinting.

That was in reference to the family practioner that wahalla refered to.
We have a long way to go, but we have come a long way.
How many people knew that just about anbody with a pair of plyers and some plaster of parus could practice dentustry too? Thes is a lot of work to be done in Jamaica. Bit we need to re-examine just about every aspect pof administration. Or we will find more a nd more that needs to change if we do it piece meal.

Yes some 60,000 (I believe) had the free eye surgery done by Cuban doctors and as is not uncommon with ANY type of surgery there were adverse complications in a few - don't remember the exact number but it was less than 100.
A big deal was made at the time in this forum about the poor quality of the Cuban-performed surgeries based on those relative few problem cases by those with an anti-Cuban-anti-socialized medicine axe to grind.
Cuba presently provides about 80% of the medical care in very poor Haiti so there is a precedent for the acceptance of that help where it is needed.
National pride which prevents accepting Cuban help for the poor should take a back seat to the needed medical care for those who can't afford for-profit medicine.
It is neither moral nor acceptable that someone should be blind because they can't afford the necessary operation.
Politrix should be kept out of this issue.

How many new hospitals (or clinics) have we built since our so-called Independence to keep up with the health needs and rising population?
To give Jack his jakkit, when the british left...Linstead hospital was a hospital...now it is classified as a "clinic" deterioated in name and standards.
Now, how many roads have we built to accommodate tourists getting hither and fro, and how much have we paid farrin consultants to come in an tell us how to jerk jerk an import foreign butter for tourists to spread on imported croissants... while our people languish under a almost feudal-type health system...? How many?
Di leadership was fked up and so were their so-called priorities, if they know what that means? but what do they care? Didn't some of our noted politrixians [naah call noh name] fly to Miami when they got sick? Miami of all places ::LOL:: so much trust they put in their ownah dying/dead system...pun intended.
