The management of the Half Way Tree Transportation Centre has banned the public display or waving of school flags at the facility during this weekend’s Boys’ and Girls’ Championships at the National Stadium.
The transport centre’s management says the decision was made in the interest of the safety and comfort of commuting students and adults.
The Ministry of Transport and Works is supporting the decision in light of what it says is a developing trend where the friendly rivalry which once existed among the schools involved in the championships, has become violent in some cases.
The displaying and waving of flags among students in the centre has been cited as a source of this violence.
The transport centre says the security forces and contracted security guards at the facility will be vigilant in enforcing the ban.
