The Ministry of Tourism has revised its growth projections for the current fiscal year <span style="font-weight: bold">down to 6.5 percent from 12 percent</span>.
<span style="font-weight: bold">However the Tourism Minister, Edmund Bartlett says the change will not affect the projections of earnings for the sector</span>.
<span style="font-style: italic">During yesterday’s sitting of the Standing Finance Committee, Opposition Spokesman on Tourism Dr. Wykeham McNeil questioned the practicality of higher expected earnings with the reduced growth projections.</span>

Additionally he told the Standing Finance Committee<span style="font-weight: bold"> that the allocation for Jamaica Vacations Limited has been increased from $10 million to $20 million. </span>

</span>The overall expenditure for the Tourism Ministry has been cut in this year’s budget from $3.5 billion $2.7 billion.
<span style="font-weight: bold">The tourism minister </span>
says the ministry’s plans for the year going into next year will not be in jeopardy as a result of the reduction in funds. The Standing Finance Committee will continue its examination of the Estimates of Expenditure for the 2009/2010 fiscal year today.
