Family attacked at home
Thursday, 27 August 2009
A Westmoreland businessman along with his fiance and child escaped death Thursday morning when armed thugs fire-bombed their house and robbed them.
The house was also riddled with bullets.
No one was injured in the incident which has heightened tensions in crime plagued Grange Hill.
Their ordeal began about 1:30am when the couple woke to a pungent odour permeating their house.
Shortly after, a loud banging was heard outside and the men began demanding money from the occupants.
The couple called the police but the gunmen began firing at the house.
The police arrived shortly after.
In the meantime, like many other residents in sections of Westmoreland, this family is living in fear and believes the police are not doing enough to protect them.
"Whenever you call the police, they never come on time. It seems like they're scared and they not coming until everything finish and therefore, your life is at risk," said the woman whose house was fire bombed and shot up.
The incident followed another on Tuesday night when residents took on armed thugs who were stealing their fishing boat and gear, killing one of the robbers in the process.
