Delayed appointment of new US Ambassador not linked to "Dudu

A senior official of the United States (US) State Department has sought to put to rest speculations about the protracted delays in the appointment of a new US Envoy to Jamaica.

Late last year, Prime Minister Bruce Golding scoffed at suggestions that the hold up in the appointment of a new US Ambassador was linked to the extradition request for Christopher "Dudus" Coke.

On Tuesday, his pronouncement was backed up by Julissa Reynoso Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Central America.

According to Miss Reynoso, the hold up in the appointment of a US Ambassador to Jamaica had no link to any political matters but is based solely on the timely internal processes that have to be carried out in making the selection.

Miss Reynoso said she hoped that an announcement can be made on a nomination for a candidate in another few months.

"it's something that the State Department is considering right now ... looking at names and making sure the individual is appropriate for the task based on the necessity and the kind of issues that are pertinent in Jamaica. The actual confirmation of an Ambassador is within a legislation branch and that's something that becomes their task," she said.
