New police officers urged to be servants of the people

Deputy Commissioner of Police Jevene Bent has urged the newest batch of police officers to stay clear of corruption.
The senior police administrator was addressing the passing-out parade for over two hundred members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force and the Island Special Constabulary at the Jamaica Police Academy Friday afternoon.
According to DCP Bent, 50 policemen and women have been cited for corruption so far this year while others have been dismissed in the public interest.
She advised the new batch of police officers not to see themselves as masters of the people, but servants instead.
"This means that you must serve the people of Jamaica with the proper respect and courtesy irrespective of class, colour or creed. Human rights are sacred and it should be treated as such.
"Have skills and the competency required for the job as we're living in a changing world where technology and knowledge quickly become obsolete. We are ensuring that you have you have the facilities to encourage learning," said DCP Bent.
