A man, who has been described as a major player in organised crime in Jamaica, is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday to challenge his extradition to the United States.
Montego Bay businessman Presley Bingham is wanted by US prosecutors on drug trafficking charges.
He appeared in court on August 26 under police and military guard, having lost his bid to be released on bond.
The High Court rejected an application by his attorney for him to be released on bail pending his challenge to his extradition.
Mr. Bingham otherwise called "Presser" and "Butcherman," of Liliput in Montego Bay, was arrested on July 12 by the narcotics police.
US prosecutors in Florida have described him as a crime enforcer in Jamaica, based on statements they collected from convicted drug kingpin, Norris "Deedo" Nembhard.
Mr. Bingham was indicted in 2004 with Nembhard, Clasford Morris, Robroy Williams and five others who are now serving time in the US.
Nembhard who was sentenced to 13 years in prison after striking a plea deal with the US government, reportedly gave them names of local politicians and senior cops allegedly involved in the drug trade.
